Pack Your 35mm Slides
How to Pack Your Slides:
If you prepare your slides carefully and properly before shipping it makes our job easier and, your scans will go faster! In order to maintain affordable pricing we depend on our customers to do their fair share and ensure that their slides are clean, sorted and batched properly. If your slides are warped (warped slides will jam our scanners and, they take much longer to scan than slides in good condition) you will be charged a $79.95 extra handling fee.
On this page, we have provided some instructions and recommended tips for packing and shipping your slides to us:
- Remove and collect all of your slides from your circular or straight carousels and portfolio binders. Sorry but, we do not accept carousels or portfolio binders.
- Ensure your slides are clean and free of any sticky labels or any glue. Labels and glue will jams our scanners.
- Place the loose slides into rectangular boxes. Do not use rubber bands since rubber bands will warp the slides.
Aluminum foil or plastic wrap boxes make excellent containers for slides.
If your slides do not fill up the entire box, cut a piece or cardboard into the size of a slide and put it after the last slide to protect that slide.
Then, wad up tissue paper or plastic bags to fill the space to the end of the box. Wrap the aluminum foil or plastic wrap box itself with plastic wrap to
protect them from moisture and to keep them secured in their boxes during shipping.
- If you do not have aluminum foil or plastic wrap boxes then tightly wrap each batch of slides with clingy plastic wrap (i.e. Saran Wrap®) and then, place each batch of slides into a ZipLoc® bag.
The plastic bags protect your slides from moisture.
- Arrange your slides so that they are all facing the same way. Make sure all slides are facing upright in the same direction (just like a deck of playing cards).
- You may want to organize your slides into groups. If your slides are already organized in groups, you can label each group. When we scan the images, we will create individual folders for that slide scanning group. For example, you could label one set of slides as "Hawaii 2003" and another set of slides as "Disneyland 1975".
- You do not have to separate the black & white slides from the color slides.
- Place the Ziploc® bags or aluminum foil/plastic wrap boxes into a sturdy shipping box. We recommend that you use boxes from your local FedEx, UPS Store or Post Office. Do NOT overstuff the box and fill empty spaces with proper filling material to ensure your slides are secured during handling and shipping.
- Place a sheet of paper inside your box of slides that indicates your full name, mailing address, e-mail address and telephone number. Seal and securely tape the box (use enough mailing tape to ensure the box remains fully intact during shipping).
- Mail your slides via traceable means (UPS, FedEx, DHL or the United States Postal Service) to:
