Our Story

The Beginning of Arizona Scanning:

As the family genealogist and preservationist I have worked with old family slides, photos and archives. I have used many types of "personal" scanners but, I always found the scanning process to be slow, monotonous, and repetitive.

I then read an article in the USA Today newspaper about a high-speed batch photo scanning service located in California. So in order to preserve and share all of my old family photos I mailed them off.

The service was quick (one day) and cheap ($99.95 for a box of photos). However, I was very disappointed with the quality of the digital photos that I received back. Most of my family members have black hair and darker skin tones. The digital photos I received back lacked detail and, everyone looked as if they were wearing black wigs! Also, their skin tones were orange in color - yikes!

I complained to the high-speed batch photo scanning service and, I discovered that they scanned my photos at only 300dpi - much too low for acceptable photo scans. Basically, they were using "document" scanners as "photo" scanners and, this is what caused their poor quality photo scans and, I wasted my time and money.

I said, "I can do better than that!" So, over a period of several months we searched for suitable slide scanners and photo scanners that would quickly scan slides at high quality at 3000-dpi and photos at 600-dpi. We tested many Kodak, Bell & Howe, Fujitsu and Panasonic commercial grade scanners all of which failed our stringent testing standards. We then found a scanner that actually worked! We now confidently offer our slide scanning and photo scanning services to you!
